Mold & Fungi: The Often “Forgotten” Borders
You love your home, but there's only one problem: you are not alone.

Thousands of unwanted borders are ready to move in. Or maybe they’re already living there. Termites, wood boring beetles, ants, and cockroaches are just a few of these unwanted borders, and you can read more about our pest control management for them here. But there are two other intruders that many people forget:  mold and fungus.

Mold, Fungi, & Your Health:
The CDC states in its mold fact sheet that “exposure to damp and moldy environments may cause a variety of health effects, or none at all.” But why take a chance? While it’s impossible to eliminate all fungi and mold spores, it is possible to manage and control mold and fungi in homes and commercial buildings. We, of course, look for mold during home inspections, too. Read more about our VA/FHA home inspections.

How We Control Mold & Fungi: Sodium Borate
Sodium borate is a mineral as old as the earth itself. In fact, mold and fungus (and insects) have no resistance to borates. To control wood-destroying organisms like mold, we recommend Bora Care and Mold Care products because they eliminate decay fungi and mold on contact.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allows wood treatment for wood-destroying insects, mold, and fungi in new construction. It’s important to note that Ford’s Hometown Services is the authorized company in Massachusetts to apply Bora Care with Mold Care to new construction. Sprayed directly onto wood by Ford’s Hometown Services, Mold Care soaks in, killing and preventing mold and decay fungi as well as insects like carpenter ants, wood boring beetles, and termites. Bora Care is also the only product evaluated for use by the International Building Code (IBC) and allowed for use under the International Residential Code.
