George L. Ford would always tell customers, “It is always summer in your house.” This quote was mostly said in the winter when people would question why they had flies inside the house.
Our office receives many calls from homeowners during the winter who become frustrated with small flies flying around the house. Most often, these flies are fungus gnats, drain flies, or fruit flies. These flies lay hundreds of eggs at a time and can become an “infestation” overnight.
Fungus gnats are usually coming from overwatered plants or a slow-leaking pipe that allows fungus to grow. Fruit flies are introduced by fruit or vegetables. Let plants dry between watering, fix leaks quickly, and remove infested fruits and vegetables to address these infestations.
Drain flies lay their eggs in the gunk inside your drains, so getting the pipes cleaned is important for getting rid of these pests.
