It is winter, so where are the flies coming from? We receive many calls from homeowners during the winter who become frustrated with small flies flying around the house. Most often these flies are fungus gnats, drain flies, or fruit flies.
These flies lay hundreds of eggs at a time and can become an “infestation” overnight. Fungus gnats are usually coming from overwatered plants or a slow leaking pipe that allows fungus to grow. Drain flies lay their eggs in the gunk that collects in drains. Fruit flies are introduced by fruit or vegetables.
Let plants dry between waterings, clean your drains to keep them flowing and bug-free, fix leaks quickly, and remove infested fruits and vegetables to cure these infestations. If the infestation has been going on for a long time, pesticides may need to be used to gain control. For more information or to schedule a service, call (774) 418-4908.
