As pest management professionals we recommend the following to our customers to prevent infestations and to make your home less attractive to wood destroying pests. Preventive practices include:
- Remove wet or repair water damaged wood and sheet rock
- Remove all wood that is in contact with soil
- Wood should be separated from soil by at least 18″
- Seal cracks in masonry to block entryways
- Do not bury wood or tree stumps on the building lot
- Move firewood, scrap wood, and lumber away from the home
- Remove vegetation and mulch from touching the foundation
- Avoid using foam insulation on foundation walls when possible
- Fix moisture problems: roof, wall and plumbing leaks. Run your de-humidifier when necessary
